Proof of the pudding

They say the proof of the pudding lies in the eating. Well, here I am L & G. Having my muffin treat for hitting my target weight, seven months since I touched such a thing!

Portions increasing? Watch carefully!

Got slightly lax today on portions for dinner – generous helpings of chicken (Indian style, not steamed that too). Before that snacked on rice puffs and chana as an extra – so settling into the comfort zone, perhaps too easily, though not doing anything wrong technically. Just a reminder to be careful, have come a long way and there’s potential for getting fit, so find a solution to balancing the portions. Sometimes, eating nothing is the best option if it isn’t a mealtime! Don’t want to under-eat but don’t want to put back the weight for another 6 months anyway!

Injury almost? A life lesson!

Okay, just like with everything else in life, the basics are easy to forget. Which may set me back by weeks if not more in this fitness trip.

Always be SAFE while working out – the last yoga lesson with its complicated postures was too advanced, I almost (and hopefully it’s “almost”) injured my back again. This would have been disaster, if not physically putting me back in my gym routine (where I and DJ have been very careful).

All this when there’s no need (or great desire on my part) to get over-ambitious with fitness. Things are coming along fine and by next year I could probably be doing these yoga postures with ease (or at least with confidence).

So, let’s recount the lesson again.

Go SAFE, go for life, stay fit. Go too hard and get injured, struggle to get fit.

Target Weight Achieved!

Consulted Niti yesterday, am at 87 Kgs! That means an overall loss of 35 Kgs since I started on October 15, 2007 – or just 7 months. Now (as Niti said) all I have to do is keep this off for the next 6 months and I’ll be one of the big weight loss success stories!

Have to begin taking multivitamins since the weight loss has been fairly rapid, the rate of loss should slow down. The new target is 84 Kgs but that is to be achieved over the next 3-4 months.

In the meanwhile, carbs can now be included in my evening meal everyday (not just on workout days) and I am allowed two snacks or 1 meal  of indulgence each week. Which means, muffins with coffee, here I come!

Sugar free gum

Sugar free gum

Satisfying sweet cravings with massive amounts of sugar free gum - bound to be issues. Need to check with Niti what that means for weight, but in general it's not healthy is it?

OMG!

I visited Sunil last year in April – and this is what I looked like. A definite Oh My God moment. Can’t believe I was so overweight and never realized it and also can’t believe I’m now 30 kg lighter!

Check yourself!

Okay, everything going to plan and looking good. Except, I can feel the motivation flagging a little and the mind relaxing a little more. Guard against this! This is not the time to relax. All the hard work done so far can take you to a very fit and ideal place, build upon it! Let’s note the slight tendencies and seek out solutions.

1.       Getting bored of the walk – takes a mental effort to go out there and do this. Solution – find an alternate cardio activity that gives you a 400 calorie workout while you enjoy doing it. Find out about a swimming pool. Try and hit the badminton court, try and get the golf going. The walk/run can happen once a week.

2.       Tend to nibble on chana or low calories snacks between meals. Solution – the idea is to be satiated with your meals, not to seek out little nibbles. Resume planning the days’ meals better.

Once again, remember the basics – small portions many times a day, eat the right food for the right reasons.
