4 kms in 40

Status: 4 kms in 40 to 41 minutes, B+ in chart 1 of 5BX
Diet: on track save one or two lapses (notably with excess wine, usually and once about 200-300 calories extra on the flight back from Singapore.
Today's diet list:

Breakfast: One toast, one slice of chicken ham, oats with half a cup of skim milk, 5 almonds and one teaspoon of sugar, some papaya

Mid-morning snack: One guava and one apple

Lunch: 500-600 gms of Grilled chicken with pickle (Lebanese joint)

Evening snack: One paneer sandwich, grilled

Dinner: 1 and a 1/2 chapati, one medium serving of black chana, one large piece of tandoori chicken

In-between eating: One guava (the night is young still though so I expect one apple and one more guava to be added to this tally)

First one since the last time I posted. Not bad, now have to keep this going for another 6 months, have to stay motivated.

Inching ahead

3.6 kms in 36.15 which means my average speed is just under 6 kms/hour (provided all the distance markings are correct! It doesn't feel that fast when I'm walking but on the treadmill 6 kms is pacy).

In two weeks it'll be time for phase 2 of the program - evening activity thrice a week.

Fitting progress

Did 3.6 kms in 37.20 today and am at C level on chart 1 of 5BX, so it's slow but it's steady and I'm happy with the progress. This time the routine is being treated as something that is a part of my life in large or small measure at different times, but forever. And I'm beginning to enjoy that. The challenge right now of course, is to keep this going until the first landmark of 3 months.

At the moment it's been 3 weeks and I skipped 5 days in between! I'm going 6 days a week with Monday off right now and hopefully will never cut below 5 days a week.

The calorie counter is also down (I may be eating too little and need to balance that out) but I need to check alcohol consumption - am getting uncharacteristically fond of wine :-)

The thing I can be proud of? In Mumbai over the weekend, I still didn't pause on the routine, said hello to Jogger's Park.

Next goal, B- on chart 1.

The beginning of the routine (again)

On 15th October, 2007 decided that I won't eat like a pig. Have managed that for every single meal since then. Not bad. Have had a few extra calories once in a while (especially wine!), but no deep fried stuff, no sweets or refined flour. Dramatic actually, considering I would have a bag of wafers and a chocolate cake pack every second day without even thinking about it. I think I have cut around 500-750 calories out everyday. Basically I've been keeping myself satiated with fruit.

On 26th October decided that I should start waking up in the morning and go for a walk. I went for 13 days straight without missing a day and was doing 3.2 kms in 35 minutes. Then I missed 6 straight days. Glad to say I picked myself up this morning to go again - also glad that I still did 3.2 in 35. The important thing is consistency, have to manage to maintain that over a long period and not injure myself by getting over-enthusiastic. This is a year-long plan, have to stick to it. Better to take a day's break to save a 6 day break - or go for golf in the morning once in a while for variety, rather than monotonously walk every day. That way, I'll still be walking 6 months into the program, won't have quit after 2 months of being superhuman. Go easy. But go for life.
