Plantar Facia? Running problems now!

Well, as you get “fitter” you discover there’s more to it than just losing weight. The good thing is I’m enjoying the running, beginning to be able to actually run a little rather than jog pathetically along. But for one the frequency of the run/walk is reduced so I go twice a week if I’m diligent – even less otherwise. Not good. And for another, I got a tenderness in my heel which may be a plantar facia injury, apparently a common problem for runners. Sigh. Time was when I could run with abandon and enjoy the experience! However, going to Tamara (physiotherapist par excellence) has been great to educate myself about footwear and injury care and prevention – also makes one more aware of one’s body mechanics. Hopefully things will be injury free and I will run the 8 km dream run in 40 minutes, as planned in January 2009.

It's been a fortnight since I wrote - a sign of flagging interest? Although I'm glad to report that things are going all right so far. Weighed myself in yesterday and was at 82.5 kgs. Wow. Every time I look at that scale I wonder how it happened. But also, it seems like a bit of a mirage, like if I give in to temptation even just a couple of times and I'll pop back to my overweight days.

Am working on building muscular strength now. The running/walking/cardio is getting to be difficult to drag myself out to - the gyms's working fine.

Have to find a good motivation for the cardio workout.
